Tosca at the Royal Opera House

The Royal Opera House is to stage a production of the classic opera Tosca, by Giacomo Puccini, from March 2nd to July 20th 2013.

Jonathan Kent's production of this enduringly popular example of the medium features naturalistic production values that help to enhance and emphasise the tense and dramatic nature of the narrative and score.

It tells the story of a man named Mario Cavaradossi who helps a fugitive escape captivity, thus setting into motion a series of tragic events involving his lover Floria Tosca and Scarpia, the sadistic Roman chief of police.

Since its debut in 1900, Tosca has proven a hit with audiences and has become one of the most performed works in the entire operatic canon.
