Category: Music & Theatre Dates: Thursday, 27 June 2013 to Tuesday, 16 July 2013 The Royal Opera House will be staging a production of the classic Verdi opera Simon Boccanegra from June 27th to July 16th 2013. Directed by Elijah Moshinsky, the piece tells the story of a doge of Genoa whose personal and professional lives come into conflict when a happy reunion with his long-lost daughter is threatened by a fierce political rivalry. Originally presented in 1857 and revised into its current acclaimed form in 1881, Simon Boccanegra has become one of Verdi's most important works, combining intimate moments with dramatic flashpoints. Moshinsky's production is inspired by Renaissance art and is performed in its original Italian, with English surtitles.
