Q. Where is Buckingham Palace?
A. The public entrance to the Palace is a simple one minute walk away.
Q. What time is the changing of the guards?
A. 11.30am - This ceremony takes place every day throughout the peak season (April to September). This is a very popular ceremony so be sure to get there early.
Q. Where is Harrods and what time does it open?
A. In Knightsbridge- which is just a few minutes away by cab. The famous store is open 10am - 7pm (Monday to Saturday). As times sometimes change please check with the concierge who can inform you of any such changes. Other famous stores such as Harvey Nichols in Kensington and Selfridges on Oxford Street are a short cab ride from the hotel and easily accessed by the underground or by bus.
Q. Where is Westminster Abbey?
A. Just 10 - 15 minutes walk from The Rubens Hotel. Simply turn right outside of Hotel, take the second right, Buckingham Palace Gate, at the end of the street turn left on Victoria Street and continue for approximately 5 minutes, Westminster Abbey is on the right.
Q. London is a city known for shopping. What are the city's best and most unusual museum shops?
A. Art lovers will love The National Gallery shop. Alongside umbrellas decorated with the works of Monet and van Gogh, there is a new high-tech printer here that allows you to select mountable reproductions of your favorite painting. Nearby, the National Portrait Gallery has candy lollipops adorned with Marilyn Monroe's face. The Victoria and Albert Museum sells artsy knick-knacks from leading contemporary designers and the Design Museum has Mondaine watches and designer coffee pots by the noted Aldo Rossi. If you are searching for kid-friendly gifts, the Science Museum is a worthy stop with its selection of mud clocks, telegraph transmitters and Albert Einstein action figures. More traditional things like teapots and packaged products can be found at the Bramah Tea and Coffee Museum. Q. If I drive to the hotel, where can I park my car?
A. There are several National Car Parks (NCP) locally, we would advise driving to the hotel where our concierge can provide a valet service and will park your car for you, all charges for car parks can be added to your bill. Please note that central London operates a Congestion Charge zone between the hours of 7am-6.30pm Monday to Friday, excluding Public Holidays.
