Event: The Mikado at the Gielgud Theatre
Date: January 10th 2008
The choice of Alistair McGowan for the title role of The Mikado ahs been described as "a stroke of comedy casting genius" by London Town and fans of the television star would be advised to head to the Gielgud Theatre in the new year for themselves to test the truth of this observation.
From January 10th 2008 onwards, guests staying at luxury London hotel the Rubens at the Palace can look forward to witnessing the rip-roaring Gilbert and Sullivan production at the Gielgud Theatre.
London Town notes that the idea to transplant mid-Victorian England into exotic oriental Japan was "inspired".
Other characters taking part in The Mikado include Nichola Mcauliffe as Katisha in addition to Eric Roberts, Bruce Graham, Steven Page, Charlotte Page and Lesley Cox.
For those unfamiliar with the production, The Mikado is a two-act Gilbert and Sullivan comic opera which first opened in London in 1885. Set in Japan, the opera satirises British politics and institutions of the Victorian era.
The latest production features Oscar-winning sets and costumes from Mike Leigh's film interpretation Topsy Turvy and is a definite choice for guests of luxury London hotel the Rubens at the Palace who look to start their new year with a good belly-laugh.
