Picasso exhibition in W1

Event: Picasso: L'Artiste, Le Modele et La Peinture at the Helly Nahmad Gallery

Luxury London hotel The Rubens at the Palace is situated not far from the Helly Nahmad Gallery, which is particularly handy for guests with a taste for the works of Picasso.

Until February 15th 2008, residents of the luxury London hotel will be able to view paintings completed by the artist in the 1960s in the Picasso: L'Artiste, Le Modele et La Peinture exhibition.

According to the gallery, the canvases take influence from the painter's Dejeuner sur l'herbe series.

Picasso's works at the gallery have been collated by Matthew Collings - star of Channel 4's upcoming series This Is Civilisation - and Emma Biggs.

Describing his works of this period, Picasso's friend Helene Parmelin noted that the painter was attempting to "turn his back on everything" and embark upon a new adventure.

Ms Parmelin explained that the artist claimed he needed to destroy so-called modern art to be able to "rediscover painting".
