Royal Institution to host family fun day

Event: Family Fun Day at the Royal Institution of Great Britain
Date: August 2nd 2008

Family breaks at the Rubens at the Palace this summer could be invigorated by taking a trip to the Royal Institution of Great Britain on August 2nd for Family Fun Day.

Family Fun Days are due to take place on a monthly basis following the inaugural event in August at the Royal Institution and on August 2nd, when parents and children staying at luxury London hotel the Rubens can visit the Westminster venue to try their hand at a variety of fun science experiments.

Activities include constructing spacecrafts, taking interactive tours and getting your hands dirty creating your own slime, while demonstrations and talks will also take place.

The programme is said to suit all ages and each month variations on the experiments and talks will be held, meaning that regular visitors to the Rubens can repeat their visits to the Family Fun Day.

The Royal Institute is also hosting the event Rock in 11 dimensions: where physics and guitars collide! in July. An Institute of Physics 2008 schools lecture, the free talk could appeal to physicists and musicians alike.

Dr Mark Lewney, a rock guitarist himself, will explain how the instruments make their characteristic sounds.
