Event: Children's Book Week
Date: October 6th until October 12th
Parents eager to convince their children there are alternatives to the television could find the answer to their prayers at the Children's Book Week taking place next month (October).
The theme for this year's event is rhythm and rhyme and a full programme of contests and shows will be taking place throughout the seven days.
Included is the National Bookstart Day, which will focus on the topic of pirates and aim to foster a love of reading as well as help children in the earliest stages of their development associate books with pleasure.
Meanwhile, the Old Possum Children's Poetry Competition will see Michael Rosen chair a panel of judges who will cast their eye over the work of seven-to-eleven-year-olds with cash, book and school membership prizes being awarded to the best at a ceremony in December.
Parents interested in taking their children to the exhibition could treat them to a special stay at the luxury London hotel the Rubens at the Palace.
In doing so, the family break could be made even more memorable by opting for the establishment's Family Fun package which offers youngsters fluffy slippers and bathrobes as well as a unique menu and a daily packed lunch.
Mums and dads can look forward to a king-size bed to relax on after keeping an eye on the kids all day.
