Event: Revealing Tchaikovsky
Date: October 22nd until November 7th
The London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment are collaborating to bring London's music lovers a retrospective of the lesser-known works of Tchaikovsky.
Directed by Vladimir Jurowski and entitled Revealing Tchaikovsky, the event will give fans an insight into the Russian composer's sound as well as a taste of the masterpieces put together by those who inspired him.
A wide range of operatic, orchestral, ballet, incidental, chamber and choral pieces will be encompassed in the festival, with links between his music and other art forms such as poetry and theatre being explored.
Highlights include a concert performance of Tchaikovsky's lolanta, two romantic symphonies by his contemporaries Sergey Taneyev and Vasily Kalinnikov, as well as the rarely-performed Second and Third piano concertos.
Mr Jurowski says he is eager to put on a show which offers a different look at the composer's life.
"I hope to shed new light on Tchaikovsky's life and work through concert programmes that juxtapose Tchaikovsky's own music with those of his predecessors and successors," he stated.
With a night of classic music to look forward to, attendees can double the experience with some classic accommodation by booking a suite at the luxury London hotel, the Rubens at the Palace.
The Get More From Your Stay package will reward those who stay for more than two nights with either a bottle of chilled champagne, a two-course dinner for two on one evening or two adult tickets to the London Eye among other benefits.
