Event: Tongues on Fire
Date: March 6th to 15th
Those who love Asian independent cinema should head down to the Institute of Contemporary Arts between March 6th and 15th and enjoy the Tongues on Fire festival.
Showcasing feature films, documentaries, shorts, panel discussions and educational screenings, the movies are united by their focus on empowering women.
Among the pieces will be the UK premieres of Deepa Mehta's Heaven on Earth, Manish Acharya's Loins of Punjab and a special screening of Mehreen Jabbar's Ramchand Pakistani.
There will also be the 2009 Tongues on Fire Short Film Competition, an In Conversation… Gurinda Chadha and a director's workshop with Asif Kapadia.
"Founding Directors Pushpinder Chowdhry and Harvinder Nath began the Festival in 1999 with the aim of using film as a way of empowering women, particularly those in communities who seldom visit cinemas," the organisers state.
After enjoying a feast of Asian film, visitors can retire to a suite at the luxury London hotel the Rubens at the Palace and enjoy the benefits of theSuite Dreams package.
Guests can enjoy chocolate-dipped strawberries, a bottle of champagne waiting in their room and a three-course table d'hote dinner for two.
