Event: Dido, Queen of Carthage
Date: March 17th until May 7th
We all think of Cupid as being a sweet and cheery cherub, with the ability to make two people fall in love whenever he wants.
However, when he abuses his considerable power, heartbreak and anguish await those in the path of his poisoned arrows.
Dido, the Queen of Carthage, is one of the unfortunates pricked by the evil tip of Cupid's dart.
In Christopher Marlowe's play, the young woman falls head-over-heels in love with Aeneas, a man who washes up on the shores of her kingdom.
Aeneas recounts his tales of battle during the Trojan War to Dido, who falls hopelessly in love with him.
However, all is not as it seems, as the shadowy hand of the corrupting Cupid is at work and it is he who is behind her feelings of desire.
The Gods look on while the pair get closer, knowing that, eventually, tragedy and devastation await them further down the line.
A tale of love and heartbreak, the play will take audiences on a journey of ups and downs which they are sure to love.
Following an evening at the theatre, the perfect way to round off the day is with the perks provided by the Suite Dreams package at the luxury London hotel the Rubens at the Palace.
Guests can look forward to a bottle of house champagne, chocolate-dipped strawberries and a three-course table d'hote dinner for two.
