Event: The Turn of the Screw
Date: 22nd October 2009 until 9th November 2009 - 22nd & 30th Oct and 4th & 9th Nov 7.30pm, 24th Oct & 7th Nov
The Turn of the Screw is a hauntingly atmospheric and ambiguously twisted tale of corrupted innocence, which wowed theatre critics so much that it was awarded the South Bank Show Award for Opera when staged at the English National Opera in 2007.
Now it is back in the capital, with former English National Opera music director Sir Charles Mackerras conducting the show and reuniting the four principal singers who made such an impact a couple of years ago.
A young governess is hired to take care of the children of a man who has recently come into custody of his niece and nephew.
The three live in the uncle's country house and things take a turn for the worse when the governess begins to see ghostly figures around the property.
She becomes increasingly convinced that the children are aware of them and takes matters into her own hands to protect the young ones, leading to tragic consequences for all.
Theatre fans will be gripped from beginning to end, but when the show does eventually come to an end, they can make the short ten minute journey to the luxury London hotel the Rubens at the Palace and discuss it while sipping ice-cold champagne, courtesy of the Get More From Your Stay package.
Those who prefer could substitute the champagne for a three-course carvery dinner before the play or opt for the romantic turndown, which includes chocolate-dipped strawberries, rose petals and floating candles.
