Mayerling at the Royal Opera House

A ballet surrounding the life of the heir of the Austro-Hungarian Empire is coming to the Royal Opera House next month and could be the perfect reason to stay at the luxury London hotel the Rubens.

Running from October 8th to November 10th, Kenneth MacMillan's Mayerling combines choreographic invention and sprawling grandiosity to create a nervous balance bound to intrigue its audience.

Following Crown Prince Rudolf, it tracks the final eight year's of the royal's life and his slide into murder, political intrigue and drugs.

"MacMillan immediately plunges us into a sordid world of degenerate depravity where sex is both a weapon and a last resort," the organisers claim.

They state that the director has never achieved a more successful blurring of the boundaries of fairytale kingdoms than in this performance.

After absorbing the experience, guests may want to take the half hour stroll to the hotel to enjoy the options presented by its Get More From Your Stay package.

Visitors can choose between a romantic turndown on one evening, complete with chocolate dipped strawberries, rose petals and floating candles, a bottle of champagne on arrival or a three-course carvery dinner on one evening for two.
