The Rubens at the Palace

With its grand interior, opulent chandeliers, polished silverware and plush seating, The English Grill at The Rubens at the Palace is fit for royalty. Fortunately, its talented team also includes some of London’s brightest chefs and front of house staff, who strive to ensure that every guest has an exceptional dining experience. Here, we introduce some of the stars of the brilliant team behind the English Grill restaurant.

Ben Kelliher, Executive Chef

Executive Chef Ben Kelliher heads up The English Grill team, joining from Butlers Restaurant at The Chesterfield Mayfair, where he spent ten years as Executive Chef.  Whilst at The Chesterfield, Ben’s take on British fine dining and his reimagining of classic dishes helped mark Butlers out as one of Mayfair’s best eateries. With a deep commitment to and serious knowledge of seasonality and provenance, Ben takes great pride in working with the best suppliers in London to create a gourmet menu for The English Grill, including meat from Aubrey Allen, Royal Warrant Holders to the Queen. Look out for Ben’s favourite dishes on the menu, the Lobster Omelette and the Beef Wellington, which is carved at the table from a silver serving trolley, and is one of the seven daily-changing English roasts.

Sarah Houghting, Pastry Chef

Pastry Chef Sarah Houghting trained at the Christina Martin School of Food and Wine in South Africa before working as a Sous Chef at the Ardeonaig Hotel in Perth, where she helped the restaurant win a Bib Gourmand in the Michelin Guide.  After that, she furthered her as a Senior Sous Chef at Roast in London’s much loved Borough Market. Sarah joined Red Carnation Hotels as an Executive Sous Chef at The Chesterfield Mayfair, working alongside Ben for five years.

Today, Sarah is a vital part of the 28-strong team at The English Grill and her dessert menu is a huge success with diners. Alongside Bea Tollman’s always-popular baked vanilla cheesecake, Sarah’s dessert menu celebrates classic sweets such as crème brûlée, Eton mess and lemon tart with clotted cream.
