The Rubens at The Palace sits between iconic Buckingham Palace and the striking new NOVA development in Victoria. Our iconic property reflects elements of both London landmarks, firmly grounded in traditional English elegance, but newly refurbished to embrace modern conveniences for our guests and diners alike.
The Rubens has been a part of palace life since the 1700s, and has played host to debutantes and notable members of society as a hotel since the early 1900s. The hotel’s high society heritage was the source of inspiration for our most extensive refurbishment since we became part of the Red Carnation Hotel Collection in 1997. The “new-look Rubens” echoes the building’s impressive history with regal colours and elegant fine details, whilst bringing it up to date with newly-revitalised Victoria.
The accommodation at The Rubens has received an extensive makeover with each of our 163 rooms, suites and serviced apartments polished to reflect the high standard seen throughout the public areas. We installed over 80 new marble bathrooms, along with 163 chandeliers, some of which were made in Murano. Modern conveniences including, USB sockets and upgraded televisions, have been installed in every room.
In addition to residential improvements, our public spaces have been upgraded to offer even more outstanding food and drink options to add to the already-popular Cavalry Bar, Palace Lounge and Leopard Bar. The flagship English Grill is an elegant brasserie-style restaurant, celebrating the best of British fine dining in the heart of Victoria. With an open kitchen, supreme cuts of meat courtesy of Buckingham Palace supplier Aubrey Allen, daily pies and carved roasts, the restaurant celebrates British produce and heritage with exceptional, traditional cuisine. The Curry Room, an authentic Indian dining restaurant, brings tried and tested Indian dishes, made using the finest ingredients and imported spices from India, to discerning diners at The Rubens. The atmospheric venue is decorated with rich, warm colours, using traditional crockery imported from India.
The renovation at The Rubens was not simply focussed upon elegance; commitment to sustainability is a key part of our ethos. A 350-metre-tall Living Wall adorns the side of our hotel that overlooks NOVA, providing a carpet of over 10,000 herbaceous plants to improve the air quality of Victoria, as well as breathing life into the surrounding urban neighbourhood. Inside, adaptations of our infrastructure ensure that The Rubens is now amongst the greenest hotels in London.
The renovations have ensured that we remain very much at the centre of Victoria and London life for another century. While keeping firmly grounded in our heritage, we have set the standard for the future and are ready to serve new generations of guests for decades to come.
