The Rubens at the Palace

The English Grill at The Rubens at the Palace celebrates English tradition, serving elegant seasonal cuisine and overlooking the Royal Mews of Buckingham Palace in the heart of Victoria, London’s hottest dining district.

As part of our big renovation project at The Rubens, The English Grill was transformed into an exceptional dining space. Polished silver, luxurious fabrics and beautiful chandeliers exude grandeur and elegance. Intimate leather booths frame the windows making it feel like you are in a private members’ club, while the glass-walled kitchen lets you see all the action while you enjoy your meal.

English Grill in London

Head Chef Ben Kelliher was previously at our sister property, Butlers Restaurant at The Chesterfield Mayfair. Ben and his kitchen brigade of 28 chefs have designed a menu that focuses on premium seasonal produce and exceptional cuts of meat. Ingredients are locally-sourced from quality English suppliers, including Aubrey Allen, Royal Warrant holder to Her Majesty The Queen.

Top quality English cuts are grilled to perfection in the kitchen’s charcoal-fired Josper grill, which reaches temperatures of 500°C and imparts a subtle smoky flavour while keeping meat succulent and tender. Our spectacular 20oz Aubrey Allen Tomahawk Steak sharing dish is a signature cut and is as theatrical as it is delicious.

Outside the kitchen, tail-coated waiters carve roasts table side from a bespoke silver trolley. Our daily English roasts include Beef Wellington with creamed onions and Madeira jus, belly of slow roasted pork with crackling and apple sauce, and salmon en croute, locally-sourced from Billingsgate Fish Market. Our signature gourmet pies are modern twists on classics like pork and apple pie, shepherd’s pie and our founder Mrs Tollman’s chicken pot pie. Aside from all the superb meat dishes, we have a wide selection of vegetarian and seafood plates.

Talented Pastry Chef Sarah Houghting oversees the indulgent desserts, including gourmet takes on English favourites such as Eton mess, crème brûlée and Mrs Tollman’s baked vanilla cheesecake. Our extensive wine list, including a fine selection from Bouchard Finlayson, our sister vineyard in South Africa, complements both savoury and sweet courses.

The talent in the kitchen is highlighted by the calibre of service in the dining room. Head Maitre’d Paul Foxon, has a strong background in fine English service, following many years as Head Waiter at The Ritz Hotel in London. His presence perfectly enhances the warmth of hospitality we are famed for.

We are very proud of what we have created at The English Grill and are excited to welcome guests through our doors into their own private members’ club. As the Victoria district continues to draw more people in search of great food and entertainment, we are thrilled to offer refined English hospitality and cuisine to London’s discerning dining crowd.
